• msg to jam

From Rick Smith@1:105/10 to All on Thu Jan 19 22:31:38 2023
    Greetings All!

I received a zip file of a msg format echo from my uplink (he doesnt support rescan) is there a way I can convert this to jam? I have tried making a second echo with the msg base and designated it as such in hpt config and while the correct number of messages shows up in golded, there is no content.. any suggestions on how I can do this?

If your hub supports *.msg (hpt does) you can setup a *.msg area and put those *.msg files in there, then you can do a rescan from your hub.

Sure ... clean it from anything that is not needed, then rinse it thoroughly.

Slowly boil it covered in water for 1hr 40 min. Then pour it through a fine cotton sieve and add enough sugars during the cooling process to thicken it.

Pour it into jars and close. Place in a cool place until it stiffens enough ... et voilà .. Jam

If your hub supports *.msg (hpt does) you can setup a *.msg area and put those *.msg files in there, then you can do a rescan from your hub.

    The easiest way is:

    1. set up ypur golded like
    AREADEF FIRST.ECHO "FIRST.ECHO" 0 Echo Opus d:\fido\mail\FIRST.ECHO AREADEF SECOND.ECHO "SECOND.ECHO" 0 Echo JAM d:\fido\mail\SECOND.ECHO

    2. put msg files in to d:\fido\mail\FIRST.ECHO

    3. start golded, go to the FIRST.ECHO, mark all messages then move them to the SECOND.ECHO.

    Have nice nights.

    3. start golded, go to the FIRST.ECHO, mark all messages then move
    them to the SECOND.ECHO.

This seemed as it should have worked. I unzipped the archive and it is a total of 285 msgs, however when I use golded to look at that echo all the msgs have no data ie message to or from etc. If I "nano" one of them there is data in the msgs so I am not sure why golded will not view them, therefor after marking them with spacebar an alt-m to move it does not move them. They could be corrupt in some fashion?

If golded is unable to read those messages then this method won't work.

They could be corrupt or they may be in a format golded doesn't support. There were two slightly different *.msg formats in use, for reasons I don't know.

I wonder if hpt will be able to read those messages?

You could try to rescan those messages from your hub to another node. I don't know if that would be successful or not but it might work.. or not.. ;)

so actually what I did was import them on my os2 machine as .msg in golded and they showed up then I copied them into a jam msg base and they are readable... problem is now that they all show as unsent and I do not want to flood my uplink with 400 dupes so I need to ask around if there is a way to toggle everything to snt in golded...?

Is that a bunch of old stuff in the spitfire area? They have arrived here.

You can use ALT Z when editing the header of message to zap all attributes although I have never tried that option.
