    i've gotten them, too...

follow the link to your site so you can see the gated spam message so you know which one it is.. the message number and area name should be apparent... then just delete the message in question now that you know the area and message number...

the gated messages my system received, i marked as spam... then i adjusted my web message code to skip messages marked as spam... i think i added 2 lines in 2 places in one file and 2 lines in 1 place in another... now messages marked as spam don't show up in my message lists and if you try to go directly to the message, you get a "access denied by moderation" message...

the main thing is that this person did something wrong, was convicted, and paid their dues... by european law, their misdeed can be forgotten now that they have done their time and paid their restitution... so someone found out about their bad actions and has a hard on for them so the information is being spammed all over usenet... since a lot of us get gated newsgroups, it is possible we will get a take down notice for these spam news postings...

the easiest thing to do is to delete the spam... i went another route but the result is the same... the spam is no longer visible on my system... all they and their lawyers care about is that the messages are removed somehow and are not visible...

i don't know how deep their pockets are... there is a chance they may file lawsuits against those who don't take down the messages... i dunno if they will hold any water but...

FWIW: i never responded to their (dozen?) emails that arrived here... they don't even know if i read them... all they know now is that the messages are not available

Once men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free. But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them.
    ... Because... I am.... CANADIAN!

This is a potential misunderstanding of the GDPR. I worked together with Ward Dossche, ZC2, to add a slight addendum to our compiled nodelists about this.

I'm not going to quote the whole thing, but basically, Fidonet is a non-commercial hobby that does not collect personal data. As in, we do not force people to sign an agreement to share their innermost personal info. And whatever info is shared, is that which we volunteer to share.

Therefore, it is not necessary and without merit to announce or proclaim
that you give or withhold consent to personal information in Fidonet.

A Sysop who is nodelisted, chose to do so of their own free-will. If there are misunderstandings or the information nodelisted needs to be changed, that node gets in touch with their appropriate *C.

    not sure what to do

    1) Trashcan
    2) There is no sysop with such a name
    3) Read Nick Andre's correct assessment.

    Enjoy the week-end.

That EU act is only for internet website, not for FidoNet.

Second, printed newspapers are not asked back after reading.
When I post a newspaper behind my window, no one can forbid that.
If you are in that paper, that's not my fault ;-)
But lucky you, I am not showing papers with you on it.

Third, almost all information circulating in FidoNet is given by the authors themselves. It is impossable to "remote kill" that unwanted massage(s) on all systems in the whole FidoNet.
Beware: Once given, for ever and altimes given.
That's why some EchoMailArea's are private, and even that is never sure.
So think twice what you write or place in any digital system.
It can be always used agaonst you.
I.e. selfies of a naked drunken roadtrip may hurt your chances for you next job. That's the choice of being wild, but you cannot blame someone elso for your own actions. So think twice for taking that selfie and publishing it on internet. Or better do not drive naked and drunk, than others can not make photo's from it.
Many young people do things they do not see the impact of it.
So when you burn your ass, you can only sit with pain on that dameged skin.
It was your choice to exercise that abnormal behavior, not others.
    Good luck.

    Henri.

in case you are not aware of it, these emails are about gated usenet messages that denigrate someone which are being displayed on web sites... the key factors, IMHO, are

    1. these are hobby systems
    2. some systems are not located in the EU
