Actually *true* capitalism isn't all that bad. It's the corporate capitalism abomination, invented in the US, that is the real bullshit, now spreading all around the world like wildfire.

    Hi Ed,

Fidonet and all the sysops we have
could give big-tech some serious competition.

Let me repeat my reply that I send to any other wannabe coming up with similar fancy ideas ...

You want to change something about Fidonet? That's great, so why don't you? Don't wait for others to do it because you may not like it. First come, first served.

Just to be on the same wave: "rich text" means:

    1. RTF
    2. Enriched text by RFC 1896
    3. HTML
    4. Markdown
    5. Cryptocurrency which makes you rich by sending text via Fidonet
    6. ?????

    Hello Ed,

I'm back.. Though other than a few of my members, doubt anyone else
    missed me
    :)

    Welcome back.

It's been 30 years since Doc's Place BBS went online, and other than
    mail
transport technology changing, mostly everything is the same. In the USA
especially, big-tech has become the 21'st century Third Reich.
    Everything on
the net is censored that the gatekeepers do not approve of.

The problem is not big-tech. The problem is bullshit and bullshiters.

Spending quite a bit of time lately working on my board. It got me
    thinking
that if Fidonet bbs's was to update their message editors to rich text,
timymc editor comes to mind, we could include images, links,
    attachments,
etc. Along with the necessary open graph meta tags, Fidonet and all the
sysops we have could give big-tech some serious competition.

You can include links to online content, images or files but there is
    no way to

Yes i know that. We need to update our boards. Iÿm thinking we can repopulate the Fidonet network. Get out of the dark ages!

Very easy. Use Cyrillic keyboard. Done.

We could do that. All of this stuff that we do was dreamed up by somebody and then made possible by the various people who do the coding that enables us to get on with what we are doing.

Updating our boards is one thing, updating the networks is another.

Thinking of what you mentioned about images and multimedia.. the Synchronet message base format has allowances for all that. I don't think it has ever been put into practice but the idea was there and I suppose it could be used.

Fidonet and FTN doesn't support that though, and until it does we wouldn't be able to use that idea in a network.

Things can and do grow over time so who knows what tomorrow will bring.

Maybe you start with the software you are using and upgrade it to 90s technology software ;). Like support for the REPLY and the CHARS kludge.

    Hello Bj”rn,

The problem is big-tech and bullshit capitalism.

Actually *true* capitalism isn't all that bad.

There is only one time in which *true* capitalism has worked for me.
When I was a kid I used to sell live cockroaches to a scientist at a
biological lab that was located in the swamp.

I would make the traps made out of shoeboxes to catch them, so the
cost was minimal. These traps were also reusable, once the scientist
at the lab fed his creature.

Unfortunately, my venture into free enterprise did not last long
as the biological lab caught fire and the creature escaped into the
swamp. So that was the end of my free lunch money for school.

It's the corporate capitalism abomination, invented in the US, that is the real bullshit, now spreading all around the world like wildfire.

The company never did rebuild the lab after it burned down.
And the creature was never recaptured.

Sounds like some separatist movement! 5 years in jail according to Russian law, pack your stuff. Don't worry, we have Fidonet in Siberia, even with FIDONEWS and ENET.SYSOP available for subscription ;)
