Sorry folks ... just can't do it. I have the worst flu right now. I'm waiting for my doc to call in some meds and an inhaler. If I can I'll do it tonight or most likely tomorrow.

You probably have extra money from what you're not spending on
    cigarettes.

I never picked up the vices of smoking or drinking, but those who do
such, do it of their own free will and choice. Yet, I couldn't afford
    it.

My late wife, at times, would have a "rum and Coke" when she didn't
feel well...but it was 1% rum and 99% Coke...that was all the drinking
she did. Just for grins, we checked at the local liquor store for the
price of Jamaican White Rum...we about had a fit!! I asked her Dad about
the high price, and when he said "it's imported", then it made perfect
    sense.

I have been told that immediately when you quit smoking, every day

verify if that's true or not, quitting smoking certainly
helps your lifespan and your ability to heal quickly.

That cannot possible be true. I stopped smoking more than 30 years ago,
which is about 11,000 days. I would not expect to live another 11,000
years. Even if it were every year instead of every day, I do not
think that I will make it to 109+. That said, it certainly does add to expected life -- and more important to the health during that life.

    Hi Dale,

I misquoted that. After looking that up, it's the initial 24 hours; after that, the effect wears off. My faulty memory besides, stopping smoking does add life to your years no matter what happens.

I have never smoked as I had enough damage to my immune system from the day I was born. I am highly allergic to second-hand smoke. If I am around it enough, I'll wind up with bronchitis. My first wife quit smoking while we were married and then picked it back up after we divorced. She then had her first daughter with her second husband and managed to quit--and stay quit--at that time.

    Later,
    Sean

Wegmans makes pretty good meals, though... ;)

I discovered that when I was in Williamsport often. When my company was
using the Holiday Inn downtown, there's a large Wegmans within walking distance. My curiosity was piqued due to the discussions in here you've
had about the store so I went over there and was not disappointed. To
me, the prepared meals were a bit spendy--hey, the company was picking
up my per diem tab!--but quite delicious. I had many a meal in my hotel
room watching TV in bed after an exhausting 12-hour day (I had to work
12 hour days when I was working "remote"; normally had to do a month or
two's worth of work in three to four days).

The company then switched to another hotel located on "the strip" in
Faxon with all of the fast food and sit-down restaurants as well as a
lot of the major shopping. So I quit driving to Wegmans unless I was
over on that side of town which I was occasionally.

I didn't mind Williamsport but it felt landlocked to me since I'm used
to being on one of the "coasts".

One of these days I'd love to go up to the Corning Museum of Glass and
spend a few days there checking things out.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

    Title: Black Bean Lasagna
    Categories: Main dish, Noodles, Seandennis
    Yield: 12 Servings

    9 Lasagna noodles
    1 Large onion, chopped
    3 Garlic cloves, minced
    1 t Canola oil
2 Cans (16 oz. each) black
    Beans, rinsed and drained
    1 Can (14 1/2 oz.) diced
    Tomatoes, undrained
2 Cans (6 oz. each) tomato
    Paste
    1 c Water
    2 T Minced fresh cilantro
1/4 t Crushed red pepper flakes
(can use up to 1/2 tsp)
    4 Egg whites, beaten
    1 Carton (15 oz.) reduced-fat
    Ricotta cheese
    1/2 c Grated Parmesan cheese
    1/4 c Minced fresh parsley
    2 c (8 oz.) shredded reduced-fat
    Mexican cheese blend

    1. Cook noodles according to package directions. Meanwhile, in large
skillet over medium heat, cook onion and garlic in oil until tender.
Add beans, tomatoes, tomato paste, water, cilantro, and pepper
flakes. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, 15 minutes
    or until slightly thickened.

    2. In small bowl, combine egg whites, ricotta, Parmesan, and parsley.

    3. Drain noodles. Spread 1/2 cup bean mixture into 13-by-9-inch
baking dish coated with cooking spray. Layer with three noodles, a
third of ricotta mixture, a third of remaining bean mixture, and 2/3
cup of cheese blend. Repeat layers twice.

    4. Cover and bake at 350 degrees F 30 to 35 minutes. Uncover; bake

    Hi Nancy,

Yes, starting to feel almost like a human being again, given the inhaler
    good stuff, rest up...

That's what I'm doing.. we're kind of getting sick of prepared dinners
from stores like Wegmans (Nancy knows what I mean <grin>)

Wegmans makes pretty good meals, though... ;) But it's kinda like
having friends bringing in meals for you, not necessarily how you'd cook them, even when they're pretty good... ;)

    Agree there... :)

    And while Wegmans has quite
the assortment of things one could be getting, it still can get boring
    after a while... :)

Yes, there are only so many days one can take the repetition :)

During the day, I've been drinking lots of chicken broth...Tonight I
actually cooked a dinner of Cheeseburgers/French fries/and peas.

Simple, but at least you were able to do it... ;) Bet it tasted good... ;)

Yes, better than soup, soup, soup :)

Tomorrow Ron is going to make Instant pot corned beef.

That sounds good, too... what did you have with it, the traditional
    potatoes and other veggies...?

Yes, carrots, celery, potatoes, in a bowl, was great :)

By the next day I should be back to darn normal!!!

    And were you, I hope...?

Feels like it, and I'm still not smoking.. that is a miracle of god.. <grin>

I have about 5 pie pumpkins from my garden I want to start using for
    pumkin bread/pies :)

Sounds good... It's that season, after all... :)

And those pie pumpkins are so darn sweet, I love them :) We just polished off the pumpkin bread I made, I have more pumpkin in the freezer in baggies.. Just in case I get the urge for pumpkin pie before the holidays hit :)

    Take care,
    Janis

... I've got the inhaler now (breath...thank god..)
Tomorrow I go in to the office for more tests. Good thing is I quit
    smoking.
Sorry to hear you've been so ill...

Was a rough one at the time.. :(

    Sounds like.

good that the inhaler is working for you now, though....
and congrats on the quitting smoking.... :)

    Thanks, feels good.

I saw your comment on giving all the cigs and all to Ron to get rid
of... bodes well for staying quit... ;) Rooting for you there... :)

I've been at the Cooking Echo picnic (NC this year) all weekend... Steve
was able to wire my laptop into his network, so I've been able to do a little messaging while here... ;)

Hey, that's nice, glad you were able to do so.. Hope the Cooking Echo Picnic went well :)

It went very well... as usual, we had more than enough food, and plenty
of cooking, eating and talking... ;) It was a fairly small group, just Hafflys, Shipps, MLoo and me... and then mark joined us for Saturday and Sunday... there should be a report showing up in the Cooking Echo
    soon... ;)

Wegmans makes pretty good meals, though... ;)

I discovered that when I was in Williamsport often. When my company
was using the Holiday Inn downtown, there's a large Wegmans within
walking distance. My curiosity was piqued due to the discussions in
here you've had about the store so I went over there and was not disappointed. To me, the prepared meals were a bit spendy--hey, the company was picking up my per diem tab!--but quite delicious. I had
many a meal in my hotel room watching TV in bed after an exhausting 12-hour day (I had to work 12 hour days when I was working "remote"; normally had to do a month or two's worth of work in three to four
    days).

And according to Michael, that particular Wegmans isn't even as good as
most of them... I've only been in it once, when I was enroute from
somewhere, and had my pregnant niece with me... she needed a potty/snack
    stop, and it was convenient...

However, we regularly get Wegmans meals of one sort or another... we
generally eat there when we are in the store for our weekly shopping...
lots of choices, from pizza to sandwiches to their "EZ meals" to their
Asian or pasta bowls to sushi offerings... also there's soup and the hot
or cold self-serve bars... We always eat there, but one could as easily
take it out and eat elsewhere...

The company then switched to another hotel located on "the strip" in Faxon with all of the fast food and sit-down restaurants as well as a
lot of the major shopping. So I quit driving to Wegmans unless I was over on that side of town which I was occasionally.

Less convenient and you had other options out there.... :)

I didn't mind Williamsport but it felt landlocked to me since I'm used
to being on one of the "coasts".

You might feel less land-locked in Rochester, even though it isn't on
one of the coasts per se, it's on one of the Great Lakes, so it has more
of that sort of feel... ;)

One of these days I'd love to go up to the Corning Museum of Glass and spend a few days there checking things out.

That's a pretty neat place... I've been there a few times, and enjoyed
it each time.... lots to see there... :)

Yes, that's true. I do love their pulled pork <g>. This week has been absolutely nutso though because Ron's aunt fell and broke her hip (again, other side this time) this past weekend. So we're running back and forth to/from the hospital.. but from what the hospital told us this morning, Ron and his aunt will be investigating other rehabilitation options at a rehab nursing home, for example, instead of rehab in the Cayuga hospital. It was determined that Aunt Gert can't tolerate the 6-hour a day rehab necessary (I think it was 6hours a day at least). :(

Anyway, running to hosptial sure puts a damper on cooking.. so last night we enjoyed a bowl of Lasangne soup from a local place.. it was good :) I have a beef tongue in my 'frige I bought to cook this week, guess I'll have to wait a bit to cook that. Thankfully it's an easy one to cook, and so good :) The cook-by/use-by/freeze-by date is sometime in the next two weeks so that is good :)

And while Wegmans has quite the assortment of things one could be

I know what you mean there. Generally, it's good food, but I find they give you too much food haha.. Right now I'm still trying to build up my appetite after that chest infection I had and the soup-frenzy that I was on <grin>

Yes, that's true. I do love their pulled pork <g>.

I saw a sign at a BBQ restaurant that noted "I like my butt rubbed,
    and my pork pulled". <BG>

after that chest infection I had and the soup-frenzy that I was on <grin>

It's rare I eat soup anymore. But, your comment reminds me of the old
cartoon (The Far Side) where Momma Hen is giving baby chick (who is sick
in bed) some chicken soup...telling the little one "It'll make you feel
better. Besides, it's no one we know". <G>

We can certainly hope so... :) Another friend of mine had a similar experience... and then the clincher for her was when she found out that
the tobacco companies had finally admitted that they'd purposely added
stuff to make people more addicted than they might otherwise have
been... at that point, she was so angry at the companies that her latest
