is a maximum of 75 character to a maximum of 15 lines.

Will your software break if there are 76 characters on a line, of more then 15 lines? ;-)

    Why any limits at all?

    Bye, Wilfred.

Anything over 75 chars will be truncated and more than 15 lines ignored.

The limits are because of the historical limits on BBS systems.

Otherwise there is no need for them.

Not sure there is a reason to have more than 15 lines though, but there could be, it would be easy enough to do (one minor change).

Lets face it most BBS callers do not read beyond five or so lines and not much more for rules content, if they look at all.

    Likewise characters per line.

So BBS users, what are the limits on YOUR bbs and include name and version numbers AND what will happen if a limit is exceeded ?

    Hello All!

A new function was added to the ELIST service facility to provide with the monthly and on-demand daily archives a set of descriptions in their own
folder of the same name as well as one for rules.

Within the descriptions folder, are currently two folders called FIDO and FSXNET (with more added as other networks include their networks echo areas) that contain the descriptions for each echo such as 'FIDO/MBSE.DES and each, has line by line the details, where each line is a maximum of 75 character to
    a maximum of 15 lines.

Programmers of the various BBS system out in the wild are invited to add this facility to their software.

The next month's archive, updates all previous archives including the
On-Demand daily (which also includes all existing data).

They are NOT cumulative, they always include ALL content, so that a later archive content can be used to overwrite an existing folder that is available to the BBS.

In addition, is the file BACKBONE.NA which as specified earlier contains ALL echos from the moderated ELIST group and all others known or added by any
one. This file can be used by echo manager software as a full list of available echos to use to auto create new areas for which a new feed is added to the system there by reduce the work load of a sysop in managing such other than to ensure that the correct uplink is set to send/receive such areas.

Content for the BACKBONE list is technically moderated by the Elist
Maintainer but in reality acts as holder for such echo's as needed by the
    Elist program.

    Vincent
