• BioGuide door by Dalton

I was playing around with BioGuide door from Robert Dalton. The door
runs fine...except when I exit out the door the telnet connection is disconnected. I am not sure why this happens, but I thought I would
throw this out there for any input.

This is on a Renegade bbs dos v1.22. I am using net2bbs to make telnet connection available. no comm ports/dialup connections

First, I have that happen with the Plinko standalone door. I've also
noticed that the score bulletin doesn't reset each month. So, I just made
it a logoff door, but it's available to all users.

Second, I'm running it under telnet over here with no issues. If you use
a telnet client other than SyncTerm to logon to your BBS, it may take awhile
to load. Also, if you haven't accessed the door in awhile, it may take a moment to load. I put the DOOR.SYS dropfile into the door directory.

I don't know if the door has any Y2K issues (like the DreamNet doors that were originally done by Andy Stewart, have), but I'm not sure if it'll take data after 1999 for the birth year.

However, you need to run TP7P5FIX or PATCHCRT before loading any of his doors, or they won't work (runtime 200 error).

Here's the batchfile I have for it:

    @echo off
    C:
    CD\DOSFIX
    TP7P5FIX
    CD\ANSI
    ANSI
    CD\SBBS\XTRN\BIORHYTH
    BIOG BIOG.CTL
    CD\SBBS\XTRN\FURY
    FURY BioRhythms c:\sbbs\xtrn\biorhyth\door.sys

As a side note, Fury is the "Door Fury" program that Nannette Thacker
of Shining Star software did...I use that to tally my door usage. And,
the ANSI deal is to show the ANSI graphics, if I logon locally.

    Next, here's the BIOG.CTL file I have:

    SYSOPFIRST Daryl
    SYSOPLAST Stout
    BBSNAME The Thunderbolt BBS
    BBSTYPE DOORSYS
    FOSSIL
    LOCKBAUD 57600
    STATUS ON
    STATFORE 7
    STATBACK 1

If you use 38400 for the LOCKBAUD under telnet, I don't think that'll
make a difference. Except for the Advent Door Game Toolkit, I'm using
all of the doors noted below.

I'll admit the WayFreight Train Door can be a challenge...as is the
Escape door -- but I love Task Force Broadside, Ship Of The Line, and Gruntfest. I do note that the BioGuide door is "For Amusement Only"
    (which is the case for all the doors, as one can't win money or time;
and their only "reward" is if they make the top score bulletins. With
Death By Trivia, one can create their own categories. I originally had
trouble with getting it to work, but all of his doors that I have on
the BBS, are working just fine. If you or anyone else needs to know
what settings/batchfiles I have, let me know.

Lastly, all of his doors are freeware...here's info from THEKEYS.TXT
in his files to register all of his doors:

    ***

The registration key code numbers and last published versions are:

GAME KEY CODE NUMBER LAST VERSION

    BioGuide BioRhythm (BIOG) 0688110347 BIOG200.ZIP
    CampTown Races (CAMPT) NDD3174 CAMPT200.ZIP
    Escape Arcade Door(ESCAPE) SS945231GG ESC100.ZIP
    Death By Trivia(DBT) 01720693 DBT100.ZIP
    Advent Door Game Toolkit(ADGT) 34790165438 ADGT103.ZIP
GodFather of Crime (GOC) Q:u&+ GOC211.ZIP
Rise To Power (RTP) PSQRVW RTP200B.ZIP
Task Force Broadside (TFB) DD060644 TFB113.ZIP
Ship Of The Line (SOTL) TF211005 SOTL113.ZIP
    Grunt Fest (GFEST) ML200769 GFEST123.ZIP
    Way Freight (WFRT) 15569305001 WFRT113.ZIP

To implement the key codes, do the following:

    a. To implement the key code for all but GodFather of Crime (versions
2.11) or Rise To Power (version 2.00B) , use a text editor to modify the
3rd line of the KEY.DAT file to show the key code shown above for that
door. You can also change the first and second lines of the Key.Dat file to reflect your name and BBS if you wish to do so at the same time. That's it!

    b. To implement the key code for GodFather of Crime (version 2.11) or
Rise To Power (version 2.00B) just erase the existing NKEY.DAT (if there is one) and type "GOC /L" or RTP/L respectively and then hit the enter key to
run the game in local mode. At that time the game will ask you for your
key code. Just type in the one shown above EXACTLY as shown. Case IS important!

    c. You are now registered with all the attendant benefits mentioned in
    the game documentation.

You are now ready to enjoy the registered versions of these fine DOS ANSI/ASCII games!

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the helpful information.

Got the door to return to the bbs. Had to go into system config and turn off Swap. I noticed an error message, went by real quick "swap error..." Do not know what the rest was. That clued me to turn off Swap.

    So all happy now.

... I FELT something was wrong. Multitasking causes schizophrenia.
