• Books Was: Summertime

From Daryl Stout@1:19/33 to Kurt Weiske on Sun Aug 2 12:13:00 2020
    Kurt,

That begs the question - we need a book echo around here. I'm doing a
lot of reading during the pandemic... I'm enjoying being able to
browse bookstores again, as long as they're offering hand sanitizer
    and requiring masks.

I can't help but think of the picture I saw on Facebook, with a
bookstore whose owner was named "Wong Foo King". So, if you can't
find what you want, you're at "The Wong Foo King Bookstore". <BG>

On another note, my late Mom had a large amount of books by Clive
Cussler (he passed away this past February...my Mom died almost a
year ago now), and I'd like to get rid of them. I also have a large
amount of vinyl records...some that may have been produced 80 years
ago. With COVID-19, many places are rather leery of acquiring these
    items.

HA! The logic sounds a bit backwards, but it's still funny.

My book shop is next door to a heritage/vintage/thrift shoppe. Our front entrances are similar. I'll get people half-open my door and mutter "Wrong store."

I should put up a sign, "See next door for wong foo king store"

Cussler's are desirable, especially the early hardcovers, or 1st editions. A local shop may like to take them off your hands for a small bounty.

Unless you have some Beatle's or Elvis in your vinyl collection, the going rate seems to be about $100 for a milk crate full.

LPs from 80 years ago would be recordings in the 40s? Check places like discogs.com for anything similar.

It took a moment when I read it, before "the light came on". :P

    That'd work.

He has signed the majority of these, and my Mom read them all. Sadly,
I lost my Mom a year ago, and I saw where Clive passed away this past
February. I believe his son, Dirk Cussler, is doing the majority of the
work now. Their annual convention, which this year, was to be a memorial celebration of his life, was cancelled, due to COVID-19.

Unless you have some Beatle's or Elvis in your vinyl collection, the
going rate seems to be about $100 for a milk crate full.

I'll take anything I can get. I'm sure I have at least 100 LP records.

Possibly so. I'll make a note of that. With COVID-19, though, most
places are very picky on what they take.

If they are signed, then they are most certainly 1st editions too. Do a
quick hunt for the same copies on abebooks.com to see what other people
are asking for their signed copies. You might be impressed.

You could probably justify to match those prices if you find an avid collector, and 50% of those prices if you find a reseller.

Do you have any books by Vince Flynn?
