    Hi Jay!

My father-in-law is like that. He'll be watching TV, get up and make
a single cup of coffee, drink it, fall asleep on the couch 30 minutes later & then get up and go to bed.

Maybe someone snuck decaf in the pantry. :)

Then there's me who can't drink caffeine after 3pm or I'm up all
    night...

I know someone who gets an allergic reaction to coffee, (throat swells, heart races, face turns red) and she still will have a coffee.

So, maybe you are experiencing something similar, but your body is not manifesting as an allergic reation. Instead there is enough trauma in your body to make sleep impossible.

I saw a video with Leroy Van Dyke (who did "The Auctioneer nearly
60 years ago (he is an actual auctioneer, as is his brother, IIRC)...
and the conversation was where this woman wondered how he kept looking
so young. He sarcastically quipped "My wife puts formaldehyde in my coffee each morning"...then admonished the questioner to "not do that". <G>

I never acquired a taste for it.

    Jay,

I remember all my friends in high school would drink coffee. I never really liked the taste of it, I'm more of a tea guy. (A lot of them
also smoked which I never took up either).

To me, the only thing I want smoking or steaming is the food on the
dinner plate (think sizzling fajitas at Applebee's). I mentioned that
at a clinic, and the nurse exclaimed "That's what I'm talking about!!" <G>.

Further on down the road I dropped the sugar all together and now just order my coffee w/ 2 cream, no sugar.

Or the meme with the woman's blood work. The doctor notes:

"The red spots are red blood cells. The white spots are white blood
cells. The brown spots are coffee. We need to talk". <G>

I didn't have my first drink of coffee until my sophomore year in
college. I remember thinking "Hey, I could get into this..."

Junior year, I was traveling into San Francisco to a little coffee
shop that sold French and Viennese roast beans for $3.99 a pound, and
running a Braun Aromaster coffee pot for 3-4 pots a day in a group
house - and somehow it held up to the duty cycle of a small diner.

I was a computer science major, and some school resources were
constrained. I took an assembly language course that had 4 modem
ports and 4 terminals in a lab - for close to 100 students. I'd learn
to work all night, go to morning classes and crash for a couple of
hours at noon. Coffee fueled that.

    Always black.

Fast forward to today, and my morning routine, as it's been since
1991, is having a cup of coffee before the house wakes up, and
    reading a QWK packet.

I think we've all thought about taking our coffee intravenously at one time or another... ;)

    Jay

You can, sort of. Aren't caffeine pills available as non-prescription? You get the caffeine without the fuss and bother drinking anything.

There's something to be said for consistency! :)

Which editor do you use with Multimail? I notice the default on Mac is TextEdit and Notepad on Windows. I assume there are better options. I noticed IceEdit has an offline mode available.
