It came in today. It works! Luckily I clled in sick today for mental health day so im going to go to a
thrift store looking for an old tube tv that i can connect the commodore to and play around.

i have software and games and disc drivces and tape drives to acquire oh my.

Good for you. Some reasonably modern TVs (or TV-like displays) may work
as well, if they have S-Video or composite input.

Do you really intend to get a tape drive? The cassette deck thingy that
most people hated? IMO, the only use for that thing today would be to
read any old C64 cassettes you still have around.

Yeah I intend to get the thingy most people hated. Even if I never use it, I want one. I also want the printer, though I'm not sure if it would work and even if it did if I could get printer tape for it still.

excited after I got it and it loaded Temple Of Apshai!

I was excited after I got it and it loaded Temple Of Apshai!

I remember reading an article/project in a Popular Electronics magazine that used a 7414 I.C. circuit to connect to the C=64 Cassette Port and to the Cassette Tape Recorder's Mike and Speaker Jacks to Save and Load files.

IIRC the + and - power to run the Circuit came from Pins on the Cassette Port through a small piece cut off of a Printed Circuit Connector.

The Data To and From the 7414 Circuit also passed through Pins on that Connector.

Someone after Church told me that it wasn't fun typing Programs in, RUNning them, and losing the program when they turned the 64 OFF.

I told them about the 7414 project in P-E, they made the circuit and began Saving Programs on Cassette Tape(s).

UNTIL

"I" got a C=64 and 1541 FDD and they saw how fast Saving a File to Floppy
Disk was.

In a few days they got their own 1541 drive.

Back then I timed it every time and it was alway just around 10.5 mins to get from title screen to the game! LOL

LOL .... My first disk drive was the Enhancer 2000 disk drive....OH it was
the best looking thing to me back then with the 3 colored LED's and slim design...just too bad it was not 100% compatible with all disks but about 98%.

I got that disk drive for Christmas, my mom wrapped it and kept it at the ladies house next door. When school was out for Christmas break that lady had me house sit for her while she went to visit family back east for the holidays. Good for me, I got paid and I very, VERY carefully unwrapped that disk drive took it out put the wrapping back on the empty box and used that drive for a week and on Dec 23rd I brought it back to her house and put it back again very carefully re-wrapping that box and acted soo surprised on Christmas morning! And I was because now I did not have to hide the drive!!!!

When I got my C64 (December 1982), there was no disk drive available. The only drives out there were the IEEE drives for PET and the VIC-1540 which didn't work with the 64. The ROM upgrade for it wasn't out yet. We LOVED the cassette drive! Especially
after the format was revealed to save two complete copies of the program for every save command. It was a very reliable system that compared the second copy automatically. Once we knew what was going on we hacked the ROM routines to only save one copy
and cut save and load times in half. The tape drive was still reliable enough to have practically no errors.
