I'm looking to build a DMR hotspot and was wondering if anyone has done that and how well does it work?

If you are talking about personal hotspot, I did "build" one.
MMDVDM DS_DUAL hat on a raspberry pi with pi-star software.
    It works really, really well.
The MMDVM dual hat costs about 50 USD.
If you do not need 2 timeslots on DMR you can go for the single MMDVM (one transceiver) for cheaper.

    Hi Ricsi,

Excellent! That's good to hear. I'm starting to shop around for parts and would prefer to build a 2 timeslot version. I'm looking to build something I could carry around with me and connect to my phone's wifi hotspot, and run off a rechargeable battery. I have a TYT MD380 I use as my primary and I have couple Baofengs, but no DMR capable ones, to use as backup if needed - mainly got those to mess around with because they were dirt cheap. No base station or vehicle radio yet.

I'll keep you posted what I come up with!

    Thanks for the info!

The single radio unit can be bought as Zumspot with a 3d printed house for the RPi Zero.
The MMDVM Dual hat is for the "large" RPi 2/3/4.

BTW. I also use the TYT MD380 and Baofeng RD-5R.
