because they fucking suck. i told you why and gave you examples of eternalsucktember.

You did? You just said I should get astraweb. Did you delete part of
    your message or something?

eternal september does weird blocking stuff and throttling. it will also not let you post under more than one username. it will also shut off your feed temporarily for various reasons.

no i did not delete part of my message.

there is no good free newsgroup provider. buy a 10 dollar block at a pay provider. it will last a long time.

omg you mean like it says directly on their web page under Terms of use, FAQ, etc?? i can't imagine why they'd do that to me!

saying they "suck" because of this makes you sound like a moron. and you know what? they're incredibly generous with their time/money from the looks of it.. so why don't you ask them if they can improve a generic account for BBS use somehow? include some info about how Sync works. sounds a bit cooler to me than complaining so much.

When i used it years ago i didn't find any information on the weird stuff that was going on and I didn't pull tons of data. I used them before these changes and they were fine. They became 'eternalseptember' and then they started
    sucking ass.

saying they "suck" because of this makes you sound like a moron. and you know what?

If you say so, but i used their service and it sucks. it's better to do what i mentioned before and buy a small block with another provider that will last forever.

People that tout how great eternalseptember is are pretty ignorant and
    usually scrubs.

of it.. so why don't you ask them if they can improve a generic account for BBS use somehow? include some info about how Sync works. sounds a bit cooler to me than complaining so much.

Because I don't have time in my life to to do stupid shit like that. I made a smart decision and used a better provider. That's what people who aren't
morons do. I believe I did open up a ticket about one of their weird error msgs but they never answered back.

Sorry to have offended you! do you have a horse in this race?

okay i read their faq today. it appears i was being blocked but not really meeting the criteria for nymshifting. i also had other issues with them as a provider.

anyways, maybe they have improved, so i think people should make their own decision. it's free so it wont be that hard.

i do recommend something like https://www.astraweb.com/

you can pay 10 bucks and get a 25gig block which will last forever.
it's lasted me like 3 years.

it says here for my acct:
    Bytes Left
    24.72 GB
    Bytes Purchased
    30.81 GB
    Account Status
    Running

    Setup instructions
    Hostnames
    news.astraweb.com
    us.astraweb.com
    eu.astraweb.com
    IPv6 Hostnames
    news6.astraweb.com
    us6.astraweb.com
    eu6.astraweb.com
    SSL Ports
    563 or 443
    NNTP Ports
    119, 23, 1818 or 8080
    Maximum Connections
    50 connections

i do recommend it because i've had zero problems .... AND you can use them for binaries.

If you want to use usenet you need to use a client with spooling support suc as slrn.

I have that set up for old computers to connect in and use on the Public Electronic Networked Information System (penisys.online:6502). It just requires 80 columns, and probably /some/ vt100 support.
