My daughter now likes that brand of Yerba Mate that comes in a yellow can. Interesting, I thought - I drank a lot of Mate in the 2000s, steeped fromoos
leaves. Mateine is a stimulant in Mate that doesn't cause the same jittersha
caffeine does.o
Then, I looked at the can. It's got tons of sugar and added caffeine! Makes
sense.
Now, that's a breakfast!

I love both of those, but not for breakfast.
I'd say my fav is probably an Egg McMuffin, or a close imitation of it made at home. And black coffee and OJ, of course.
A close second would be a plate of white rice with scrambled eggs (w/ diced tomatoes and onions in them) on top, and several slices of broiled Spam on the side. Little bit of black pepper on the eggs. YUUMMMMMM.

Although I tend to like pizza with a lot of toppings (what some places call a 'combination', with things like salami, sausage, onion, green pepper, olives, etc.), Hawaiian is one of my favorite kinds of pizza.
Years ago, at my first job (at a Dairy Queen), one time a co-worker was ordering pizza for us, and he was asking what kind we like. I said I tend to like combination pizza, and he said he didn't know what that is. I was a little surprised, since most pizza places I've been to have some kind of pizza they call 'combination'.

ketchup does, however, go well with fried rice:

Ketchup in Europe is so crazy different. It LOOKS like our crappiest ketchups, but it TASTES better than anything we have in the stores. My theory is the tomatoes there are a thousand times better and there

You're correct: ptatoes, carrots, radishes, beets, tarot, etc are

There are many different brands of sriracha. Huy Fong brand, the popular one with the chicken logo, used to be made from jalapenos, but is now made from chilis instead.
Maybe that's what you're thinking of. I think the change happened a long tim ago.

Better to use a sandwich press! You can microwave a little to defrost, but I put it in a sandwich press (like a waffle iron, but flat) to heat it. It doesn't go soggy, and returns a crispness. Comes out really, really nice.

Kinda wierd, but at home I completely prefer Miracle Whip over most jarred Mayonnaise brands. However, when going out to a sub/sandwich shop, I don't mind their mayonnaise at all. To me, there's a huge difference in the taste of jarred mayo, that even get me to the point of gagging.

and savory... There's a red pepper spread/sauce called 'lyutenitza'
that's a little bit sweet and gets put on meat (often for kids). Also, sugar gets put on egg bread. That's about as close as I can think of, though.

I put it in a sandwich press (like a waffle iron, but flat) to heat it.
I do have a small George Forman grill, which is like a SP. How long do you "press" it?

I like Miracle Whip on wheat bread sandwhiches.
It seems Miracle Whip doesn't get the praise it deserves. Only within
the last couple years or so, I've realized a lot of people seem to
dislike Miracle Whip. My wife's family generally dislikes it (except
for one of her sister's husbands), and I've seen comments online
recently about people disliking Miracle Whip. I don't understand the hate, as I think it's good on certain sandwiches. I've made tuna salad with it (for sandwiches) before and I think that's pretty good too.

were fantastic. Good chocolate covered peanuts are hard to find, too. There are M&Ms, of course, but the ones with just a thin layer of chocolate like you get from the movie theater are the best. Goobers was one brand, but there was a better one I'm not remembering right now.

I've not been to a movie since before COVID... I think the last time I went was in 2015.
Getting a box of Goobers and a soda before the movie was a treat as a kid.
They are called Goobers and, along with Raisinettes, were a movie theatre stapple when I used to attend theatres. I don't know what they sell at the refreshment counters these days as I've not been to a movie since before COVID... I think the last time I went was in 2015.

I'd usually get popcorn and a soda at the theater. Sometimes I wouldn't get any snacks, as they tend to charge quite a bit (but they also have huge portion sizes). I last went to a theater last year or the year before with my wife. I don't really pay much attention what candy snacks they have.

The Parkway theater in Oakland, CA (now in El Cerrito) had couches, tables and movie dinner service. Good food, decent coffee, a beer and wine license and an eclectic choice of movies made for a fun time.

Fried bread? I've had that in England. Grilled cheese here, is cheese on bread, perhaps the bread is already toasted, put into the grill. The grill cooks the cheese from above, it melts, and becomes heaven on leavened bread. Of course, you can put other things under the cheese, but its literally grilled.

It's an east coast/west coast thing, I think. MW is bigger in the
East, Best Foods more well known in the West.
The prices on mainstream mayo have risen to the point that the local
organic mayo costs the same as Best Foods now. It's like night and day
compared to the bigger brands.

I do think mayo can be good on some things. Sometimes I like to get a Whopp from Burger King, and I think the combination of mayo and ketchup on it (alo with the condiments) gives it a good flavor.
I've heard mayo with fries is particularly popular in some other countries, it's not really my thing.

I think the original post caused some of us to picture SPAM fresh out
of the can being eaten with jelly. ;) After you elaborated some more,
I figured you meant warmed or cooked somehow. I have used it cubed
before in different dishes.
Once it is warmed or cooked, it tastes a lot more like ham which,
although I have never tried it, I can see going with jelly as part of a breakfast a lot more than the original impression. :D
When I lived in Germany, they offered mayo for fries, not just ketchup! I wasn't too sure about it - until I tried it. Maybe German mayo is different than that in the US (the ketchup is sweeter), but it was great!
I can assure you that sandwich shop mayo was in a jar before it was
dumped into the tray/pan that they scoop it out of for the sandwich.
Only difference is that it's sat in the open air at room temperature
for a few hours before you eat it...... which isn't too good...

I imagine it probably has about the same texture (and maybe even
somewhat taste) as smoked or grilled bologna logs?

time at the trap. Luckily, mine had a screw-in cleanout so I didn't

Might be. Or it could be that they still make a great product that lasts, so they're not selling enough of them. I replaced mine about 10 years ago, and it's still running just fine.

I have this same setup... dual sinks with 1 insinkerator. In 20 years it has never clogged up although the motor finally died last year and I had to replace it. I always run LOTS of water when I use it though.
While covid may have been the final nail in the coffin.. CEC turned into a shithole long before that. They never updated their interiors to keep up with the changing times. There was probably 20 year old gum stuck under some of the tables, etc. That tends to lead to attracting less people in general. At least we stopped taking our kids there because of things like that, probably over a decade ago.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and take a '25 years in construction educated guess' that probably around 90% or more of new homes being built have garbage disposals in them. $300,000+ homes (which is probably close to the new 'average' price these days due to the ridiculous housing market) probably don't go without a simple and common ammenity like that. They aren't all that expensive ($100-$200).

they're not really as popular as you might think. i think it's more of an 80s thing. i worked by insinkerator and i know they aren't doing so well.
I've heard garbage disposals are very rare in Europe.. I don't know
about other countries, but maybe it's mainly a North American thing

disposal, if possible. If only one basin, put your silverware to the side of the sink or in some kind of rack or basket.

That could very well be because now they're owned by Whirlpool. That seems to happen quite a bit.
Local homegrown company does real good, owners/boards sell it off for huge profit to a big umbrella company that doesn't give a shit about their product or their people, etc. Company takes a dive.. ;)
Makes dishes and cleanup easier for the people that do use it. Not using them is always a choice, too.

I have this same setup... dual sinks with 1 insinkerator. In 20 years
it has never clogged up although the motor finally died last year and I had to replace it. I always run LOTS of water when I use it though.

The best way I can think to describe salad cream is this:
You know how you have mayonnaise in a jar and it's good... then you have mayonnaise in the sachets which is a bit like real mayonnaise but tastes more vinegar-ey and nasty... well if you continue that trend a bit further you get salad cream.

In college, they held a lottery system for the food court venues to get breakfast and lunch slots. One year, the Barn N' Bun, a hot dog place, got a breakfast slot. They had the tankard of bad coffee, shrink-wrapped muffins, as a call back to their roots, a "Breakfast Special" - A Hot Dog and a Jolt cola.

I think what the OP was referring to was actually cutting, blanching,
and cooking the fries (without freezing) in-house, hence why they call them 'house fries'. For the record, I have also heard of this, but it's not nearly as often as it used to be. More fancier restaurants, like

One way to ensure of "hot fries" is to ask for "no salt", and have
salt packets at the ready.

And I think Dairy Queen's fries are some of the most bland fries out there.. I'm not sure if they're still using pre-frozen fries. They've changed their menu significantly since I left.

It is still fairly busy a lot of the time. The first time I went there (4 years ago), I went inside rather than using the drive-thru, and I waited about 40 minutes for my food. I went again about a month ago and got through the drive-thru in about 10-15 minutes.. A lot of the time though, their drive-thru still has a fairly long line when I drive by there. They're building another location now about a 10-minute drive from me - I look forward to going there, but I'm sure there will be a lot of traffic there for a while..

Are you talking about just the meat patty part? Cause, no. The meat patty at a fast food place can/will never be as good as one you grill at home. The sauces and other things is another story. The lettuce and tomatoes and onions you get at the store might be 'too' fresh ;).

Tried to have my wife look up the price of this, but it's morning so the focus is breakfast right now. However, even she took a guess that it's probably about $11-13 for this "value meal" at any given time. However, there is the once in awhile offers where you might be able to get it for much cheaper, and sometimes even free with collected points or whatever.

I really like Wendy's too - They're one of my favorites now for burgers. They also claim that their burger patties are never frozen, which would contribute to their quality (if true). I think their prices are a bit high though, like many other fast food places these days, and they don't offer many deals in their app, so I don't go there often. But Wendy's is a place I go to often if I want a fast food burger.

As far as I've witnessed, hot dog packages only seem to tell you what kind of meat it contains (ie: turkey, pork, beef, etc), not what actual parts of said animals are used. It's not, by any means, "good burnt ends". Burnt ends should be crust
on the outside, and juicy and fall/pull apart on the inside. While
there wasn't any grizzle in them, they were super tough.
Although, I would imagine if when I had them they were cooked quite
a bit less, they may not have been nearly as bad. With all that
said, I'll most likely never try them again. I'd much rather make
my own burnt ends on the smoker, since we don't have many good
/real/ BBQ joints around here.

1) Yumbo - Hot Ham And Cheese Sandwich
2) Veal Parmigean (sp?). A veal patty, with mozarella cheese, and marinara sauce.

4) Hot Apple Pie.
They have a fish sandwich, but it used to be called "The Whaler".
I love their chicken nuggets (original flavor) and the original chicken sandwich.
The best part of the burgers is that they are flame broiled, and not swimming in grease, like at Wendy's, McDonald's, and other places. However, they can aggravate my acid reflux.

I miss the old days of having a drawer full of to-go menus, calling the restaurant and knowing there wasn't a middleman involved. Heard too many horror stories of delivery companies gouging customers and screwing restaurants.
Peak breakfast fast food has to be the Carls Jr. Breakfast Burger. It's a burger with cheese, sausage, an egg and hash browns, somehow all barely contained in a bun. Then, to add to it, the combo includes MORE HASH BROWNS.

I have had that King's Hawaiian Deluxe Fish sandwich, and it's quite tasty.

There are no Waffle Houses on the West Coast, we have to get by with
local diners. I have one in Moss Landing that serves fishermen
heading out to the harbor that does a killer breakfast. Great
chilaquiles, a fish and eggs breakfast, with a couple of fishes

with tortillas and beans.

shell company literally named "100% beef" to supply their
own restaurants. They could then give the restaurants
whatever they liked to put in the patties without it being
false advertising. The contents are truly "100% beef"

Lyon's restaurants in the SF bay area competed with Denny's. There was a Lyon's near my college campus, we'd go there around midnight, get the breakfast deal - 2 eggs, hash browns and toast for $1.99, and drink endless cups of coffee while we did our homework. We were polite and quiet, we tipped as well as we could being poor college students, and the restaurant was empty, so they didn't mind us taking up a table for an hour or two.

Ahhh the great Pinapple on Pizza debate, I for one like a
slice of Hawiian pizza once in awhile.
Some like it some don't, IMHO Pizza has not blueprint, you can
make Pizza the any way you like and it will still be pizza.

There's another restaurant chain in the western US called
Shari's which closed all their locations in my state a couple
years ago.. I miss them. They were similar to Denny's (and
I'm disappointed to see they've closed a lot of locations too).

When I was a teenager, we had a restraunt called Sambo's on
state street, in Salt Lake City.
Pineapple, canadian bacon and jalapeno. I'd do it.
Mix it up and replace the canadian bacon with spam or anchovies some time. I probably said this before.

Yeah, I'm by no means a competitive eater, either. I tend to like Chicago dogs, which usually have mustard, onions, pickle, tomato,
and some mildly spicy peppers on it.
Never thought of tomato on a hot dog...but I do enjoy them.
White Castle burgers...are affectionately known as "gut grenades".
I believe Burger King has one year round. Arby's and Wendy's only have them during Lent.
Also, I only really like sauerkraut if it's with a bratwurst,
Polish dog, or similar. I don't really like sauerkraut on an

I tried sauerkraut way back in elementary school nearly 60 years ago...and I didn't care for it. I guess one has to acquire a taste for it.
A couple years ago, I noticed Popeye's has a fish sandwich during Lent too.

I think sauerkraut is only really good with certain things. A bratwurst or Polish dog is probably the only thing I like sauerkraut with.

oven.. mmmmmmm.
Sauerkraut is "really good" with most basic meats. You roast a chicken in the fireplace, sauerkraut will work fine with it. You roast ribs, same thing. It is a classic with sausages or burgers.
I could see sauerkraut being good with meats like that. And as a side note, I've never seen or heard of anyone using their fireplace to cook food. :P

Sautee onions on a skillet, make a burger patty next to them. Smash
the patty down, and when you flip it, put it on top of the onions.
You get all of the hamburger grease cooking with the onions.
Slice of american cheese on top a few moments before taking it off,
and don't forget to grill the bun. Perfection.

onion, tomato slices (or wedges), relish, pickle spear, and a dash
of celery salt on a poppy seed bun.
IMO, the best way to eat a hot dog!

I produce a whole lot of cabbage at home, therefore I produce a lot of sauerkraut as a cheap way of preserving it. I remember watching a video review for a fermentation tank and the guy running the review said "I don't know who would need a tank as big as this one". I have 6 which are about the same size as that one.
