Signalman modem. Remembering the first time I connected to BBSes, my

I would love to get ahold of a C64... just too pricy for my pocket. Are you using the RS232 WIFI interface to connect it and what are you using for storage. Seen many ways people are doing it now... I follow Retro Recipes on YTand saw how he was doing it.

Yes, that was really magical back then. Now that I managed to get back in here with my C64, I find it pretty awesome
again. Especially since I'm now on Port6464, which the Partybowl Sysop set up just for me. This makes everything
PETSCII - pretty colorful and of courcenot so fast at 300 baud. But it looks cool. Thanks, Droidmike!

The filming of the video is completed

Great. I am online with Putty for once. But otherwise, it's just more awesome with the real C64.

For me, here in the Partybowl, I am actually getting a bit of that old BBS feeling again. I wouldn't have thought so. I started back in 1984/85 with a 300 baud acoustic coupler on the C64. Here in Germany, phone costs were very high - so you had to watch every minute. That's why the Snobsoft BBS, which I brought back online after 40 years, still has a one-minute inactivity timeout built in. Back then, it was to protect the user from accidentally staying on the line and incurring unnecessary phone costs. Today it can be annoying - I think I'll remove it since I've realized how relaxing it is in comparison in the Partybowl when I can take my time to understand all the menus without getting a timeout right away. Especially for me as an 80s BBS enthusiast, these "modern" 90s-style BBS are still quite unfamiliar in terms of handling, but I am slowly getting used to it.

BTW: Does anyone have an idea how to make it so that the BBS is accessible via Telnet and Dial-up on the C64? I've managed either one, but not both at the same time. I would need some kind of switch to allow either Telnet or Dial-up. The Snobsoft can only handle one port. Maybe with a Raspberry Pi at the user port of the C64 somehow? I appreciate any tips.

the cost for a 64 PC or a System

    1541 FD , Modem and 64 ?

Based on the prices here on eBay Germany, I'd say (in dollars):

    C64 functional with power supply - $50-80
    1541 - $100
    Modem - $50
    Acoustic coupler - $150-200
    RS232 adapter (new) - $50

These are only approximate estimates and could be incorrect.
Overall, everything has become more expensive.
But there are still bargains to be found -
    maybe not necessarily on eBay.

Thanks, I haven't looked at EBay fer ages, mainly because I haven't got a major credit card to pay for an item there.
Long time ago I told a neighbor about a thing I was wanting and the neighbor stood me someone was selling what I wanted .
My neighbor bought it for me and I paid the neighbor back.

What I wanted was a SyQuest Drive to read some EZ-135 Disks I had made, but the Drive I had no longer operated.

Now have a SyQuest EZ Flyer that can read those disks.

I saved lots of files to that EZ-135 drive to keep from filling up space on the HDD in my old 486 box.

The newer drive came with a SCSI Card for my XP box.
Now I can see those old files that were saved back then.

As I told MRO, I will take a look at eBay to see what Commodore gear is for sale there.

My first C=64 cost around $300.00USD, some years later I bought another one for &100.00USD.

A friend had a C=64 before I bought mine and told me that after typing a BASIC PRG in and running it after he finished using the PRG it would have to be entered in again the next day if he wanted to RUN it.
I had seen an article in Popular Electronics magazine where a 7414 IC circuit could allow a ordinary cassette recorder to Save and Load files on tape.

The circuit was connected to the C=64 Cassette Port and to the mike and speaker jacks on the Cassette Recorder.
He also subscribed to Popular Electronics and built the circuit..
He enjoyed using the C=64 more after that.

    THEN I got my setup, a C=64, VIC300 Modem and a C=1541 Floppy Drive.

A PRG on cassette tape came with the Modem so I asked him to bring his circuit and Recorder to my house so I could see what that PRG would do.

After we Loaded the terminal(?) PRG I Saved it to disk and his jaw dropped when he noticed how quick that small PRG got Saved on the floppy disk.
    ...
A few days later he was the proud owner of a 1541 too
